What if I told that you that in life someone doesn’t have to lose for you to win? That we don’t all play the same game of life?
The scoreboard of life is to judge and score aspects of life to rank ourselves against others in life. A prideful game played to gain a sense of self representation and status in society. We score the talents and abilities we have, the cars we drive, the house we own, spiritual blessings, etc. and compare them to others. Keeping a score to judge our success in life.
This creates a Pride Divide in society in which everyone competes against everyone. Thinking that someone else being successful – scoring, makes us inferior and losing. When we score and boast, we often fall into pride thinking we are better than others. During times of reflection, we look at the score, and we let it shape our mind, emotions, and overall life. We become the scoreboard and not the player.
Some players only care about the score, the numbers on the board that they believe defines the entirety of our success in life. Some base their predictions off of the score of past games and even seasons and place previous performance above the present predicament. And some just really love the game for the game; the scoreboard doesn’t even matter as long as the game was riveting and well-played.
We should all strive to be a player with no scoreboard, but I don’t believe humans are capable of living without one. Humans will always pursue meaning, impact, and purpose in life. Since we pursue such things, the scoreboard becomes our identity. Instead of living without one we must do two things: We must realize that we do not all play the same game, for each of us God has a different plan of prosperity and purpose, and we must change the scoreboard in life.
In order to achieve these two things, we must change teams and play for Team Jesus Christ. When we do, we put on the jersey of Team Jesus and get rid of your old one. When we do, we must play for the name on the front and not the name on the back! When we do, we go through life with humility. For it is humility that unites us. For the Word of God calls us to honor others above ourselves. When we play for Team Jesus, the game and scoreboard change. We no longer play for ourselves, but for Him. In correspondence, we play for each other through the unity of Christ. We all play different events in this game of life, but we belong to one team.
Therefore, the scoreboard in life is different. It’s no longer scored on our earthly things, but now it’s scored based on Jesus. And Jesus scored the only point that matters; He came to the world, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, resurrected, and conquered death. Winning the Game of Life.
Thus, we can go through life with a sense of peace and purpose. In that now when others “score”, when we have bad plays, when bad calls are made that set us back, or in triumphs of good plays and calls, we can look at the scoreboard and see the score never changes as it always reads a 1-0 victory.
📖 Philippians 2:2-4
“then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
📖 Ephesians 4:22-24
“22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
